IPDealRoom™ - Always Up-to-Date Competitive Intelligence
The same features that make ClearAccessIP so great for helping you decide whether to file a patent application can also provide competitive intelligence based on the contents of a patent portfolio. Use IPDealRooms™ to:
- Find holes in a competitor’s portfolio and watch their new applications and recent grants
- Uncover gaps in your own portfolio and the assets needed to fill them and protect your products.
- Find potential partners or licensees by their related patents
Creating an IPDealRoom
Watch our video on creating and using IPDealRooms or follow the steps below
Step 1: Click the IPDealRoom™ tab
Step 2: This page will include all IPDealRooms™. Create a new one by clicking ADD NEW.
Step 3: Fill in the listing info. This will always remain editable, so no need to fill in every text box or finalize the language. Click CREATE IPDealRoom™ when finished.
Step 4: Add in one or more assets. These can include granted US patents and applications as well as invention disclosures. Add assets by:
- Searching by title or serial number to find assets
- Checking the box of any asset to be added to the IPDealRoom™
- Adding them to the IPDealRoom™ and
- Viewing the box to confirm that the record was added
- Turn on Machine Learning, as it is off by default. Then view the IPDealRoom™
The machine learning will need a few minutes to run. It is finished when the “Suggested Companies” section populates.
FAQ - How Many Assets Should I Put into a IPDealRoom™?
There is no limit to how many assets can be added to an IPDealRoom™. Our general guidance is that users should upload fewer when looking for related assets, companies, and products, and more when looking to license or sell a larger portfolio.
IPDealRooms™ were designed to be shared. Users may share them internally, with investors, with outside counsel, or during patent sales and licensing discussions. Recipients will receive a read-only version, which will contain all of the same information available to those in your enterprise.
To share an IPDealRoom™, find the “Share” button either in the list of IPDealRooms™ or in the IPDealRoom™ itself.
Organizations with multiple Manager accounts may require that multiple users be able to access to IPDealRoom™. Rather than merely recreating it across profiles, the platform allows users on the same enterprise account to clone IPDealRooms™.
Step 1: This is the same as the normal process for sharing an IPDealRoom™. Click the share link, copy the URL and instead of sending to an outsider, send it to other Managers who are logged in under your same enterprise account.
Step 2: After receiving the share link, find and click the “clone” button on the top left corner of the page.
Confirm that the IPDealRoom™ should be cloned and a copy will become available in that user’s account.
Attaching Documents and Contracts to an IPDealRoom™
Users can attach claim charts, proofs of assignment, engineering sketches, PDFs and more to an IPDealRoom™, and those documents will become available to anyone with the share link .
DealRooms can also contain URLs linking to contracts from cloud providers like Dropbox and Google Drive). Users will attach files and URLs from the Edit window. The window is accessible from either the IPDealRoom™ overview page or within the IPDealRoom™ itself.
Copy any contract URLs into the Contract URL box within the edit view. Most will use a Dropbox or Google Drive share link, but the URL can come from any source. Just be sure to update the IPDealRoom™ to save the link and that URL will become available to anyone with access to the IPDealRoom™.
Contract URLs will appear on the main IPDealRoom™ page and are accessible by anyone with the IPDealRoom™ link.
Users may also attach files to the IPDealRoom™. Here, users can upload claim charts, lists of encumbrances and any other files that could help aid in licensing or selling the patent(s). The platform supports most common document, spreadsheet, and image formats.
To attach a file, click on the “Edit” icon, then navigate to the “Supporting Files” tab (see image below). The user can either drag and drop files into the window or choose files from a finder window to upload. The selected files will be uploaded and automatically saved to the IPDealRoom™.
Uploaded files will appear on the main IPDealRoom™ page and are accessible by anyone with the IPDealRoom™ link.
Users can delete files by going back into the edit page and clicking “Remove”.
IPDealRooms™ are powered by the machine learning found in the IPMap. This is where users interact with the transformer neural net, which provides a ranked list of related assets, grouped of the most relevant IP assets by assignee.
On the main page of all IPDealRooms™ is a “Suggested Companies” field, which groups IPMap results by assignee. Click on the blue company name for a list of their related assets.
The results show filing dates, similarity scores, and the blue application numbers link to Google Patents
Use the list to ask:
- Are there startups in the space? Are there potential acquisition targets?
- How does my portfolio compare with a competitor’s?
- Are there surprising matches or unknown competitors? How old are their filings? Should we buy those patents or be wary that others might?
- What is the spread of similarity scores? Do they cover one area really well, or are their filings more spread?
*Note that due to the differing search methodologies, not all organizations will have relevant assets under both search types.
Ranked IPMap Results
Sort the list of related assets by similarity rather than assignee by clicking either the IPMap icon or “See More” under Suggested Companies.
Using the IPMap:
- Click any asset to open up its page on Google Patents
- Mouse over an asset to show its Snippet, a quick view of the claim and description that are most closely related to the input asset
- Click the blue icon in the snippet window to download a Claims Comparison Report.
Where some IP management platforms will show users related assets, ClearAccessIP is the only one that shows users why those assets are related. Mouse over any asset to see its snippet, a quick view of the claim and description that are most closely related to the input asset. To see how all claims are related, download the claims comparison report.
Enablement & Claims Comparison Reports
Enablement Reports and Claims Comparison Reports are accessible from IPDealRooms™.
Enablement Reports show which paragraphs of the detailed description support each claim.
Claims Comparison Reports show similarity between input assets and IPMap results by identifying which paragraphs of the related asset would support the claims of the input asset.
Download an enablement report at the bottom of each IPDealRoom™ by clicking the blue icon next to any input. The report is formatted for Microsoft Word, but will work in other word processors.
The second page of the Enablement Report includes a table of contents. The table sorts claims by how well they are enabled, the first being the most well enabled.
Click any to be taken to the claim and its enabling paragraphs.
Claims Comparison Reports
Claims Comparison Reports are available for each asset within the IPMap.
Download the report by clicking the blue icon within any Snippet window.
Just like with Enablement Reports, the second page of the Claims Comparison contains a table of contents, ranking the claims of the asset inputted into the IPDealRoom™ based on how well they are enabled by the description of the related IPMap asset.
